Sorry people, but one more (last I hope) bit of info I need for book, is:-
How long (about) would the Manston runway be in 1965..........?
When book is finished and goes to print, I will let you all know.
It is good story (friends tell me) and s...
I used to go to Broadstairs every year for hols as a kid. but came out to "OZ" in 1969 at 18 on my own.
Mum & Dad then retired in Broadstairs in late 70"s, (Leybourn road) both passed on now. Mum died this year (09) at 95.
So BS is like a 2nd home to me & I love it.
I am writing a book, and need to know some information about RAF base Manston in 1965. I just wish to know if Maston Base would of had any "ack-ack" (or other weapony) guns to shoot down any planes attacking base, (it's a fiction story)
Can any one help please.
Nigel - you might try

and if you manage to contact a person somehow that might lead somewhere.
or search i/net for Kent International Airport and ask them if they have a history contact. Sorry can't be more help.
Welcome to Live in Thanet. Michael Child of Michael's Bookshop may be able to help. He has a blog that you should be able to track down via http://thanetfinder.com/ - There may be others that can help - what specifically do you need to know?
